on Financial Knowledge
I highly recommend this book to people nearing retirement. As a matter of fact, I recommend this book to anyone who want financial security when you retire. It informs you of what to look for and how to prepare. Keep in mind, the younger a person is the cheaper financial services are. And, the writer of this book is highly skilled in that area. The book is a solid reference tool for now and later.

on Finally-A Retirement Guide That Works
Finally — a retirement book written for someone like me I'm 56, married, working in corporate America, and like a lot of people my age, I thought I was doing everything right. I've been maxing out my 401(k) for years, I have a Roth IRA, and I figured I was on track. What I didn't realize was how many gaps I still had — and how little I understood about what happens after the paycheck stops. This book changed that. Janine Davis lays out retirement planning in a way that finally made sense to me. She covers everything — Medicare, Social Security timing, income strategies, even home equity and estate planning — in plain language without talking down to you. I've read other retirement books that either put me to sleep or made me feel like I needed a finance degree. This one felt like sitting down with someone who genuinely wants you to get it right. The part about Social Security timing alone was worth the price of the book. My husband and I had always assumed we'd both just claim at 62 and call it a day. Now we're rethinking that entirely. What I appreciated most is that this book doesn't just throw numbers at you. It asks you to look at your whole picture — your income sources, your protection gaps, your plans for housing — things I hadn't connected to retirement before. It also gave me the vocabulary to actually have smarter conversations with my financial advisor instead of nodding along and hoping for the best. If you're in your mid-50s, think you're "probably fine," and haven't sat down to really stress-test your retirement plan — read this book first. You might be surprised what you find.

on Retiring? Thinking about Retirement?
I truly enjoyed reading this book. Retirement planning can feel overwhelming, especially when there are so many decisions to make, but Janine Davis presents the information in a way that is clear, practical, and easy to follow. I learned several things I had never considered, and I found myself taking notes throughout the book. The six pillars provided a helpful framework for understanding the key areas that need attention before retirement. What stood out to me most was the emphasis on being proactive rather than reactive. After working hard for so many years, none of us wants to reach retirement and discover we missed something important. This book offers guidance, encouragement, and actionable steps to help readers prepare with confidence. I would definitely recommend it to friends, family members, and anyone who wants to make wise decisions about their future.

on So glad I read this! It's never to late
I’ve known Janine for most of my life, and one thing that has always set her apart is how deeply she cares about helping people feel secure, informed, and prepared for the future. That same heart and dedication shine through in this book. This is not one of those dry, overwhelming financial books filled with confusing jargon and page after page of fluff. It’s practical, easy to understand, and incredibly thorough. Whether you’re already retired, preparing for retirement, or helping a loved one navigate the process, this guide covers the financial and legal realities retirees truly face in the real world. What impressed me most is how empowering the book feels. Janine has a way of explaining complex topics so clearly that you come away feeling more confident instead of more anxious. It genuinely feels like sitting down with a trusted friend who wants to help you protect everything you worked so hard to build. If you want your money to work as hard for you as you worked to earn it, this book is absolutely worth reading. And if you need help putting together a complete retirement plan afterward, I would encourage you to reach out to Janine directly. She’s knowledgeable, compassionate, and the real deal.
