October calendar with stethoscope and Medicare card — book your Metro Detroit Medicare review before AEP opens October 15

As of October 1, Medicare review appointments are open at Lifestyle Safety LLC. If you're in Wayne, Oakland or Macomb County and you haven't scheduled your review for the 2026 Annual Enrollment Period yet, take this as your reminder. Every year, the same thing happens: retirees wait until the mail is full of plan comparison postcards, panic in late November and pick whatever plan sounds familiar without actually comparing it to anything. It doesn't have to go that way. The retirees who get the best outcomes are the ones who review early, while there's still time to work through the details carefully, rather than compressing it into the first week of December.

What We Cover in a Medicare Review

A Medicare review with Lifestyle Safety LLC is a personalized comparison. It starts with your current plan and what it's actually costing you: premiums, copays, coinsurance and drug costs, added up honestly instead of just glancing at the monthly premium. From there, I compare every plan available in your specific county for 2027. I'm an independent broker, which means I don't work for any single insurance company, so there's no incentive for me to steer you toward one carrier over another. I check whether your specific doctors are staying in network for each plan under consideration, and I check your specific medications against each plan's drug formulary, including the new GLP-1 Bridge Program, since Medicare now covers some GLP-1 weight-loss medications, but coverage varies significantly from plan to plan.

    What's Different About 2026 AEP

Three factors make this year's Annual Enrollment Period more consequential than usual. First, the GLP-1 Bridge Program: formulary coverage for GLP-1 medications varies dramatically between plans, and if nobody checks this for you, you could end up paying full price for a medication a different plan would cover at a fraction of the cost. Second, network changes: Medicare Advantage plans in Michigan change their networks every year, sometimes mid-year, and verifying that your specific doctors and specialists are still in-network is essential rather than optional. Third, plan landscape shifts: insurance companies add and discontinue plans in the Michigan market annually, so your current plan may no longer be the best available option for 2027, or it may not be offered at all next year. None of these factors show up on a renewal notice. They only show up when someone actually checks.

Why Early October Reviews Are Worth Booking

AEP runs October 15 through December 7, a 53-day window. Most people wait until they've received a stack of marketing mail in late November before booking anything. By then, appointment calendars across Metro Detroit are full, and reviews get compressed into short calls instead of the thorough, personalized comparisons retirees actually need. Booking on October 1, or in the two weeks before AEP officially opens, means your review happens with full attention and enough time to compare every option carefully.

The Six-Pillar Retirement Review, All Six Decisions in One Conversation

Lifestyle Safety LLC is Metro Detroit's only retirement advisor coordinating all six critical retirement decisions under one roof. Medicare, pillar one, doesn't exist in isolation. It interacts directly with Social Security income, pillar two, through IRMAA, the income-related surcharge that can raise your Medicare premiums based on your reported income. It connects to insurance protection, pillar three, home equity strategy, pillar four and guaranteed income planning, pillar five, since all of these together determine what you can actually afford to pay for coverage. And it connects to estate planning, pillar six, since beneficiary decisions and long-term care needs shape the whole picture. Most Metro Detroit retirees manage these six decisions through five or six different advisors who never talk to each other. That fragmentation is where thousands of dollars in avoidable cost quietly accumulates every year. The six-pillar approach exists specifically to close that gap.

How to Prepare for Your Medicare Review

Two things make your review faster and more useful before you even sit down. First, complete the Medicare survey below. It asks for your current doctors, medications, hospitals and pharmacies, just a few minutes, and it feeds directly into your comparison. The earlier you complete it, the sooner I can put together your personalized quote; quotes start going out October 1. I'll tell you plainly whether your current plan is still your best option or whether something else actually fits you better.

Second, it helps to know the 2027 Part D numbers going in, even though your specific plan's amounts may land somewhere different from these standard figures. For 2027, the standard Part D deductible can be up to $700 for the year, though many plans charge less than that, or nothing at all, depending on the drug tier. And once your out-of-pocket drug costs reach $2,400 for the year, covered drugs are $0 for the rest of 2027. Also worth knowing: the old Part D "donut hole" coverage gap phase was eliminated starting in 2025, so drug costs now work on a simpler two-phase structure instead of the three-phase system many retirees remember.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When can I book a Medicare review appointment?

October 1. Medicare review appointments are now open. Book at LifestyleSafety.com or call (313) 450-9543.

Q: When does AEP open, and when does it close?

AEP opens October 15, 2026 and runs through December 7. Changes take effect January 1, 2027.

Q: My health situation didn't change this year. Do I still need a review?

Yes. Even if your health situation is unchanged, the plans available in your county may have changed. Networks shift, formularies shift and new options appear every year, sometimes with real cost differences attached.

Q: What does the six-pillar retirement review cover beyond Medicare?

The six-pillar review covers all six critical retirement decisions: Medicare, Social Security optimization, insurance protection, home equity strategy, guaranteed income and estate planning coordination. It's free at LifestyleSafety.com.

Q: I'm a retired auto industry or public sector employee with a pension. Does that change my review?

Yes, and it's worth bringing your pension and retiree health benefit paperwork to your appointment. Whether you retired from GM, Ford or Stellantis, or spent your career as a teacher, municipal employee or first responder, your pension and any retiree health coverage directly affect which Medicare option makes the most financial sense for your situation.
